FATEHGARH SAHIB: Breakdown of the car of the man who allegedly shot at Sri Guru Granth Sahib world university vice-chancellor J S Ahluwalia on August 1 helped the police track him.
Zora Singh, a resident of Khanauri area of Sangrur district, was arrested from his house on Wednesday night at around 10 pm.
Police officers said following the release of a sketch of the accused, they got a call from someone on Wednesday who claimed to have given a lift to Zora Singh from near Adampur canal to Sirhind.

A special investigation team also visited the spot near the canal where locals had seen a parked car, which was later taken by the owner to Patiala for repairs.
They finally found the workshop where the car had been repaired, noted down the vehicle registration number and procured the address of the owner from Goyal Motors of Patiala, from where Zora had purchased it some months back.
Ludhiana range DIG M S Farooqi said the accused had confessed that he had met the vice-chancellor last week for his relative’s admission, but the latter allegedly refused to accede to their requestand insulted them in front of the staff.

‘‘To avenge the insult, he shot at the vice-chancellor with his licensed .32 bore revolver after consuming alcohol,’’ the DIG added.
Zora travelled in three cars to reach the university— his own, took a lift, and then hired a taxi from Sirhind.
Police have seized the revolver used in the crime and three live and empty cartridges.
